Recycling Used IBM Servers and Getting Something from It

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Upgrading the network usually meant throwing out used IBM servers and most of the equipment.  But come to think of it, you still have the problem of storage to worry about.  Storing these bulky old equipments does take a lot of space and space we did not have because we only have a small office and the extra room is already used to store important documents and receipts.

We were now faced with a dilemma on how to go about this concern.  Good thing, I was able to relay this to the company where we will be purchasing some IBM iSeries servers as a replacement for the old ones we were disposing.  When they learned about this, they offered to take a look at it to see if it was still valuable for them and we may even get something in exchange for it.   Being the head of the project, any rebates is very much welcome.  That was what we got after they took all the old equipment to be processed.  Problem solved for us and we even got something in return for it.

HP Storage is the New It

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I am surprised that there are still businesses nowadays that do not use a storage facility. I mean, we have seen technological innovations come and go, so it is not so impossible for a business owner to hear of the benefits of having electronic storage facilities at work.

In my case, since I have been served well by HP since time immemorial, I am using HP Storage solution. It has been a very efficient partner, and it has never disappointed me or any of my employees. It was able store our growing database, and it has even duplicated every single one of them. This a human being cannot do, or if otherwise, not as efficient.

Currently, I am specifically using HP NAS or the HP Network Attached Storage. Actually, I was using the blade system before, but I decided to switch to NAS, not really because on is better that the other, but simply because I want change. Next year, maybe I will be using a different storage facility again, but rest assured that it will still be HP.

Growing Leaps and Bounds

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

The small business that I have has grown over the past year thanks to very efficient team that I have.  We are looking into moving in a bigger office before the year ends.  Together with the move, we are planning on a new network setup that will make things easier for everyone.  We are looking at possible solutions and the IBM SAN is one of them.

IBM Storage is a really great solution for offices.  However, buying a brand new one can be very expensive as we were shown the pricelist for their brand new equipment.   We could not very well afford them so we are planning in doing an alternative solution for our requirement.  But the technical guy in the office gave the idea of using used and refurbished equipment for our solution.  We would still be able to get the brand that we want at a way lesser cost than buying a brand new one.

He was tasked to look for a supplier and he referred this site that he is a frequent customer of.  They do have used IBM equipment for sale but are refurbished to be in good working condition.  We purchased only a few to test them out and we got great results for it. We highly recommend them.

Is the IBM iSeries Right for You

Monday, June 7th, 2010

IBM has been a name trusted for its high quality IT equipment and products. The IBM iSeries, which has been named as one of the best technology so far for every IT – based company, has proven its reliability and power since its release. There is a lot of demand for it but is it the right equipment for you? Let’s take a look at some of its specs.

IBM servers have a menu driven interface, multi user support, DBMS (DB2/400), IBM 5250 as its dumb terminal support, communications and even web-based applications which also can be implemented on its own IBM Web Sphere App server or by a native port through Apache server; it is Java compatible and has Integrated File Systems similar to Unix; could process information through Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino, TIMI-run instruction set, and reads many programming languages. Now, with those highlights mentioned, if your IT is looking for a stable and powerful server, wouldn’t you think that IBM is right for you? Of course, you may have to invest much for such a machine, but it’s all worth it. Furthermore, you could also look at tech stores that sell Used IBM iSeries Servers so you could experience its capabilities without spending a lot.

My Friends And I Installed Used Poweredge Servers

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

My best friend asked me to help him install a set of used servers. I had never done anything like that and told him that he should just hire a professional. He told me that he could not afford a professional and had bought the used poweredge servers because they were really all that he could afford.

I called a coworker of mine and asked him if he knew how to install used poweredge servers and he told me that he had done it once before but that it takes a long time. I asked him how much he would charge me to do it and he said that it would not be too much as long as I helped him out. I explained the situation of my friend and the cheap used servers that he had bought and that he did not have much money for the installation fees but I would make up the difference.

We started the work on the installation of the used poweredge servers the next morning and it took us about twelve hours to get all the lines run to the right spots and then to get everything hooked up where it should be. My friend did not have all the necessary materials, so a couple of trips to the store were included in the twelve hour installation time as well.

The Used HP Servers Boxes Were Damaged

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

The used hp servers that were delivered today came in boxes that were all banged up. The company that we had bought them from had asked us if we would like to insure them and since we had never had anything delivered to us damaged before, we did not buy the insurance. I sure wish we had, since five of the six used proliant servers all had something wrong with them.

When I contacted a manager at the computer company, she was very nice but also informed me that once the used hp servers left their warehouse, they were not their concern anymore. I wanted to reach through the phone and smack her but that would not have done me much good. I called two local repair shops that fixed computers and explained the situation to them. They asked me what kind of servers that they were and I informed them that they were used proliant servers.

The guy was very nice and said that more than likely; the insides of the used hp servers were fine even if the outside had been dinged up a bit. He told me that we should try and install them first, before just assuming that they might now work.

The Dell Repair Contract Is Up For Renewal

Monday, December 21st, 2009

The dell repair contract that we had with the company has expired. I think that they want to renegotiate a new one but I have heard that they have raised their prices considerably this year. I wanted to use them again but think that I may need to start searching for a smaller dell repair company that is willing to deal, to have our business.

The company we used to have, had to have come out here at least ten times a month to repair something and each time we called them they charged us a trip charge. I would think that since we bought two new poweredge servers from them, they would be more likely to give us the prices we had before.

I am going to put all of my thoughts in a letter and then fax it over to the salesman who is in charge of our account over there and remind him of the great commission he made on the poweredge servers. I am hoping that he can set the prices or convince whoever is in charge that we deserve to have the prices from before or else we will have to take our business elsewhere.

Sell used Cisco products at the best price

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

The use of router has helped people in connecting different computers to internet while using the same internet connection. Although there are some service providers who allow you to connect several computers by paying a small fee but you can still make use of a router to handle things on your own.

Here, it is worth mentioning that different routers come with different power and potential to satisfy users. Considering this particular fact, most people try to upgrade their routers and that’s when they look for a company to sell their old routers. If you are also one of those persons who currently want to sell their routers, you must consider paying a visit to CiscoDealer.com.

This particular site is all about used Cisco products. They don’t only help you in buying different types of Cisco products but they also allow you to sell your own routers, switches, firewalls, concentrators, etc. Moreover, you can also consider them for Cisco repair service. But, if you are prime objective is to sell your Cisco products, you will not find any better site than this one.

The reason is that they provide you with a form to inform them about the asset you hold right now. Along with informing them about the Cisco hardware products, you can also inform them about the price you are interested in. The whole process doesn’t take a lot of time and allows you to sell your assets on your own price. So, always sell your products to them.

The Used Bladecenter Were Priced Too Low

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

When we stumbled upon a computer store that was having a big sale, we never figured that we would end up buying it. The current owners were having the sale, to reduce their inventory so that they could down size the store and move to a smaller retail space across town.

The prices that were on some of the equipment were outrageously low. I asked them if they had a website that partnered with the store, and they said that they had always wanted to, but just never took the time to do it.

My husband found used bladecenter servers priced for about a quarter of what they were worth. He then discovered some used ibm equipment that was in a back room and everything there was priced extremely low. Even if the older couple was trying to downsize, we just felt that they should not be giving the stuff away.

We asked them why they had the used bladecenter servers and the used ibm equipment along with many other things in the store priced way below the market value. They responded that they were thinking if they could downsize enough that they could just retire instead of moving the store.

We made them an offer on all of the used equipment and they accepted. We stopped the crazy sale and reopened with everything priced the way it should have been. We added a website and our inventory has been flying off the shelves.

Optimize your windows rationally

Friday, April 11th, 2008

When there is a talk about Windows Optimization, you will always have to understand that what affect the software, which you use for optimizing the performance of your system, will create. You must also be sure about what software you need to install as if you keep on installing and uninstalling it, you may get yourself entangled in registry problems. Registry keeps on changing with every change you make to the Hardware or software of your system.

If you may only handle the registry values and keys with care, you can get and enhanced and optimized experience of you system but that needs a lot of understanding about the technical terms used for the registry changes. You can always use Windows Registry Editor, but lo and behold!  If you edit it in a wrong way then you will end up doing a lot of damage to your operating system, even, you may have to install that again.

A solution to registry problems can always be achieved with out much ado as you can always buy a Registry Cleaning Software which will save you from taking any of the risk by yourself and will do it in the right way.

So, next time when you get yourself a Windows Utility Software , make sure it’s the right one for you and will provide you the help in attaining the objective for which it is installed and you won’t need to un-install it, time and again.
