History Lessons can be Fun
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010We wanted the kids to have different kind of vacation this year. Aside from having fun, we wanted them to learn from the place that we will be visiting. We eventually decided to visit Galena for we read that it had a nice historical town where most buildings are listed under the National Register of Historic Places. Also, aside from the historical attractions, the city boasts of nearby golf courses which my husband would surely appreciate.
We stayed in the Galena Bed & Breakfast which was about 2 miles from the downtown area. According to the website, it is one of the largest and finest historic mansions in town and it was built in 1876. The house looked grand when you see the pictures and you would not be disappointed when you see it in person. It was huge and the gardens at the back of it were expansive! The kids were awed on how grand the place was. My little girl appreciated the room that we stayed in because it had a four poster bed and the sheets were so soft. We learned that they only use 400 thread count pure Egyptian cotton sheets which were very much appreciated by us.
Breakfast is already included when you stay at the Galena hotel. We surely had a great time visiting the town and learning more about its history and the history of the hotel as well. It was a truly enriching experience for us.
